Electronic Rust Protection for Cars

Rust isn’t just a 4WD problem. Coastal air, salty roads, car washes, stone chips and humid weather all eat away at everyday cars, often in places you can’t see until it’s too late.

ERPS has been making electronic rust protection for cars and vehicles since 1996. One small system protects the whole body, with nothing to re-apply and nothing to maintain.

Why cars rust

  • Coastal living: salt air reaches every panel, even if you never go near the beach
  • Hidden cavities: inside doors, sills and boot floors, moisture sits where you can’t see or clean
  • Stone chips and scratches: every chip exposes bare steel
  • Age: paint and factory coatings wear down over time

By the time you see bubbling paint, rust has usually been working underneath for a while.

How electronic rust protection works on cars

An ERPS system connects to your car’s battery and sends a small negative charge through the body using capacitive coupler pads. This slows the chemical reaction that causes rust across the whole car, including inside doors, sills and cavities that sprays can’t reach.

  • Draws under 20mA, so it won’t flatten your battery, even if the car sits for a while
  • Passed AS 4251.1 for electromagnetic compliance, so it won’t interfere with your radio, sensors or car computers
  • No moving parts, nothing to wear out
  • Moves to your next car with a Re-Installation Kit

Looking at rust inhibitors for cars? Most are sprays that only protect where they’re applied. An electronic system works across the whole body and can be used alongside a spray. More on sprays: Underbody rust protection compared.

Car rust protection FAQs

Is it worth it on an older car?

Yes. Fit the system first and wait 4–6 weeks before repairs, because it can bring hidden rust to the surface so you fix it once.

Will it affect my car’s warranty?

No. Fitting ERPS won’t affect your car’s warranty.

Does electronic rust proofing work on cars, or just 4WDs?

It works on any steel-bodied vehicle. Cars just need fewer pads than a large 4WD.

Will it flatten my battery if I don’t drive often?

No. It draws under 20mA, less than your dashboard clock.
