ERPS utilizes Capacitive Coupler Technology which provides a negative charge to the vehicle or structure being protected. When choosing an electronic rust prevention system for your vehicle you must consider a number of variables. The type and size of the vehicle, the age and current condition and the environment to which the vehicle will be regularly exposed. When installing the system, you have 2 main options:
1. Self Install – Either Installing it yourself, through a friend or local auto electrician
2. Having it professionally installed by one of our registered installers such as an ARB, TJM, Opposite Lock or other 4×4 specialist (Please note, this is only available for vehicles in Australia)
This will come down to your level of confidence, time and budget constraints, however, we’re confident that most people will be able to fit the system themselves. We have created both an installation video & manual for an easy DIY install on any vehicle type.
Yes it works! The concept of using electricity to prevent rust has been around since 1824, however, was adapted for automotive use in the mid 1980’s. ERPS has been manufacturing electronic rust prevention in Australia since 1996 using Capacitive Coupler Technology – the only accepted technology for ‘free air’ structures. Yes – The principal of operation works the same for both old and new vehicles. It works to slow the rate at which the steel reacts with environmental elements which cause rust. Hence, whether your vehicle is new or already has some rust, the ERPS system will work to slow the rust reaction and extend the life and value of the vehicle.
A word of warning: With older vehicles we suggest fitting the Electronic Rust Prevention System, then waiting four to six weeks before undertaking any repairs to the existing rust. This is because the system may react with the rust currently in the vehicle, causing a neutralizing effect which can sometimes (but not in all cases) cause slight blistering under the paint. This is not the system causing or accelerating rust, but simply reacting with the rust that is already present. This effect can sometimes show up rust that is not immediately obvious and may be lurking just below the surface. Hence it is advisable to fit the system and wait, allowing any hidden spots to be shown up. It’s always best to find these areas before you apply that nice new coat of paint. If the Electronic system were not fitted these areas will continue to develop and deteriorate rapidly.
In short, “No”. ERPS uses Capacitive Coupling Technology, a system proven in the harshest of conditions for over twenty years. Other technology such as cathodic/impressed current systems, while similar in the fact that they use an electrical charge to slow or stop rust and corrosion, are not designed for cars. They are generally used for structures such as boats, bridges and pipelines, where they require submersion in water or at least an aquatic environment to carry the electrical charge.

Spray on coatings only protect the particular area they cover, they are prone to being worn off and need to be maintained on a regular basis. ERPS covers the entire body of the vehicle including all the hidden and hard to reach places. The ERPS system has no wearing components and other than occasionally checking the LED light, requires no on-going maintenance.
Unlike chemical sprays or liquid coatings which can be toxic or environmentally damaging, our electronic systems are environmentally friendly and can be transferred when updating your vehicle.
No it won’t – The ERPS system has passed both European & Australian Standard 4251.1 for electromagnetic compliance. This means that it will have no effect on any device or interfere with radio signal, emergency channels etc.
Yes, the main component of the system, the electron generator, can be removed and used on the new vehicle. New couplers, the connecting wire and all joiners, etc, can be purchased in a ‘Re-Installation Kit” to complete the installation.
No – The system draws less than 20 milli-amps which is less than the power to run the digital clock on your dashboard. This means the ERPS system can run constantly without interruption, protecting your vehicle 24/7 every day of the year.
It sure will. With aluminium panels the system works in exactly the same manner as with a steel panel, slowing the oxidation process. As long as the aluminium is painted the system will set up a negative charge on that panel. Wherever two or more dissimilar metals come in contact with each other in the presence of an electrolyte (eg: water), a small galvanic cell is produced causing rapid acceleration of corrosion.
This is the case with the Land Rover where you have both steel and aluminium in close proximity, the system will however counteract this effect by inducing a negative charge to work against the galvanic reaction.
Absolutely. The system must be mounted directly onto the trailer. The Electron generator can be powered by an on-board battery, a 12 volt supply from the towing vehicle or can be plugged into the mains supply via an AC adaptor when the trailer is not in use.
If necessary the system can also be powered from a motorcycle battery and a small (5 Watt) solar panel.
